Each member of Team Halo plays a pivotal role in our collective success, but who are these recruitment heroes and what secrets are they hiding? There must be something more to them than just talent acquisition! Let’s find out as we put them through an exclusive tell-all interview!
Here Arran shares her insights, experiences, and a few behind-the-scenes anecdotes that make her, who she is….
What nicknames do you go by?
None I would use anymore 🤣
Where are you from?
I was born in Ireland, we moved to the UK when I was little and spent a good few years in Coventry for all our sins! Then my mum was blinded by the roundabouts and green spaces of sunny MK and 34 years later I’m still here.
What do you love about where you live?
The open spaces, so many places to explore and get outside and enjoy on our doorstep!
Tell us three things that motivate you.
My daughter, the end goals, life in general and just waking up and making sure today is a better day than yesterday.
What did you always want to be and how have you come to work in Recruitment?
I had no idea what I wanted to be, I think it changed so many times! I became a recruiter because when I was temping in my early years I came across a few bad recruiters and wanted to try to change that for other people.
Tell us about how and why you and Amanda started Halo.
I have worked in Recruitment for 17 years and I am one of those odd people who still loves what I do! In late 2016, Amanda contacted me and asked to meet for a wine, her best friend had left the business and she wanted me on board – I mean, great choice even if I do say so myself 🙂 After a few conversations I left my role and we were all guns blazing with Halo. I have never looked back!
What do you most like about your job?
The daily rollercoaster and success stories, the happy feeling you get when you find some one a job they really want! The thanks you get form a client when you find the perfect candidate! I love it all!
In your experience, what would you say are some of the biggest challenges you face with working life in 2024?
I think every year brings different challenges and it’s how you approach them. Flexibility, being kind to your self during the tougher times and taking one challenge at a time and asking for support when you need it.
How do you deal with work stress?
I walk a lot. Possibly to much! Just breath and try to deal with it as it comes…. If all else fails, I drink wine 🤣
What do you think is a really important piece of advice for a client going through the hiring process?
Remember candidates are people, feedback is so important for them and not everyone will fit in to the box you think you want to tick but it doesn’t mean they can’t do the job!
What is a great interview question that you think employers should ask a candidate?
What makes you happy in a workplace?
What does your average weekend look like?
Time with my daughter, parks, walks, cooking, emails and adventures – mainly to the beach or camping. Also seeing friends – with the odd bottomless brunch thrown in for good measures!
What’s a fun fact about you that many people may not know?
I did an apprenticeship in car spraying when I was younger.
Where’s your favourite place in the world and why?
By the sea, life is always calmer and more peaceful when I’m by the sea.
What is the one thing, you can’t live without and why?
My daughter. She has made me in to someone I didn’t know existed!
If you could only eat one condiment for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Mayonnaise.
